What is the OM?

Stephanie describes the OM as the sound and light
of God. Paramahansa Yogananda called it “the
vibration of the Cosmic Motor.” So what is the big
deal with vibration?

Yogananda stated that everything in the universe,
both living and not, including solids, liquids, gases,
sound, and light is made of pure energy and the only
difference between them is the rate at which they
vibrate. He maintained that by vocalizing this word,
the audible vibration became an energizing and
healing force that could be directed to any part of
the body, mind and soul.

Yoga and meditation masters utilize the practice of
chanting the OM as a way to connect them with
Source and All That Is. With practice, anyone can
use this technique to improve their meditation and
yogic experiences.
According to Wikipedia, the OM, historically known as Aum,is a mystical or sacred syllable in the Indian
religions. It is placed at the beginning of most Hindu texts as a sacred exclamation to be uttered at the
beginning and end of a reading of the Vedas or previously to any prayer or mantra. The Mandukya
Upanishad is entirely devoted to the explanation of the syllable.

The American Heritage dictionary defines OM/Aum as the supreme and most sacred syllable, consisting in
Sanskrit of the three sounds (a), (u), and (m), representing various fundamental triads and believed to be the
spoken essence of the universe.
From the age of 5, Stephanie was aware of the OM and could turn it "on" at will. Although unaware of what
it was, her awareness was heightened whenever it was on and she quickly learned of the OM's ability to heal
both physically, mentally and spiritually. In time she was able to redirect it to others who then experienced
the same healing benefits and often physically felt the OM as it vibrated and tingled through them.

The OM Photo

During a quiet, pre-dawn morning in 2005, Stephanie and her husband, Jack, hiked to a secluded hill top near
their home in Arizona. The location, a favorite mediation spot for Stephanie, is situated just below a wooden
cross that rests on the top of the hill and was still dark as she sat down for her morning ritual.

Jack thought his wife looked especially peaceful and beautiful that morning and decided to take a photo of
her. The result is the photo you see above. The bright light is not the sun, which had not yet peeked over the
hill. When Jack pointed his camera and looked through the lens, he could see the light but nothing else and
decided to snap the shot anyway.

After careful and thoughtful examination of the resulting photo, both are convinced that what was captured
here was nothing short of pure OM that was directed from Source and through the hilltop cross and into
Stephanie who had just turned it on.
